ethics and representatives in animation

representation and ethics
Rio 2's problems in representation
-the main characters in rio are voiced by white voice actors when the characters in fact are from brazil and are Brazilian birds.
-the main villain is voiced by a British voice actor. very stereotypical of the evil British feel throughout cinema
with in the film Rio 2 two non- main characters that just on the side light are voiced by black voice actors and are rather famous people, Jamie fox and Will.I.am so it shows even height stated people are placed as side characters within this animated world and concept.
PEPs
Charles de costa come up for a theory within animation voice acting and named it PEP.
PEPs stands for Problem contexts, Entertainment contexts and performance contexts.
this theory explains the issues for racial stereotypes and genotypes.
Charles de costa believed that we had this concept due to
the people with in categories of voice actors in animation have to associate with villainy, exoticism, jocularity and athleticism.
 turbo and the social mobility

In Turbo social mobility is only presented on the white characters. This suggests that non-whites should take care and facilitate for white characters with social mobility.
In the film Turbo social Mobility is only shown and represented on the white characters,
This could suggest within the film that non-whites should take care and facilitate for white characters with social mobility.

BBFC

The BBFC are the British board of film classification, the bbfc is a guide to media content to make sure you are viewing wanted content, they are tour guides of the media world and make sure the public see what they want to see and are well trusted to get this done.
the bbfc regulate media content that are shown to public in the UK, they also class and label content, e.g films, games and music and other forms of media, the bbfc have been classifing films since 1912 and DVDs/videos since 1982.
some video games have been classified by the bbfc due to the video recording act of 2010.
the bbfc is funded by the film industry and is the prime guide that assigns classification and labels to censorship to film in the uk.

The bbfc was formed in 1912 by the film industry to create a regulator to classify and label film rather then have the government do it for them, so that's how the bbfc came to be.

funding of the bbfc

the bbfc is a independent non-profitable organisation, so funds are gained from the charges of the services they provide, the bbfc have never been funded by the film industry or the government.
the independent fees on films are based on length to set costs to film makers on the film they want regulated.
the BBFC also work and consult with the departant of culture, sport and media to set the fees.

Coraline

Coraline was set as a PG and not a U rating because of the general feel of the film and the spooky atmosphere it provided so parents would have to be the judge of whether they wanted their children seeing the film, within the film there are elements of horror so with the horror in mind it had to make the criteria for it to be PG by making it not intense with the horror and pass it for silly scenes or going into song or dance and turned the elements of horror into comedy and family entertainment.

Researching Pixar

PIXAR
History, ownership and structure

Pixar was founded in 1979 as the graphics group and was in a computering department within Lucas films that focussed in the beginning to create technology that would help animators work with  computer graphics, the department was not called pixar at the time however they made a range of computer programs and equipment for Lucas including the 'Pixar' which was a imaging computer that generated high quality images and animation.
in 1986 Lucas films sold the graphics department (pixar) to steve jobs (apple) for $10,000,000 dollars, from there the department was renamed to Pixar after the pixar image computer they made when with Lucas films,
which was sold to government groups and used in medication.
with this technology created by pixar, walt Disney used the technology and adapted it for creative areas in their films and animations.

meanwhile apple recruited John Lassester to the pixar department to make and create short films for them like Luck-so. Jr. which became pixar's mascot and title sequence (the hopping lamp)
after this new member joined, pixar went ahead  and decided to make CGI commercials for a range of brands after being seen for they new demo work with short films and technology loads of companies wanted the animations for their adverts.
owner of apple and the pixar department steve jobs sold pixar's hardware division in the 1990's then moved the pixar department to California after seeing the success and new direction of the pixar company to further it's carrer.

soon after this Disney asked them to make three CGI featured films for them, the first of these new films was the famous Toy story, after a long creation and developed period of Toy story it was finally debut in 1995.
then made a gross of 350,000,000 dollars world wide and also set the bench mark for animation films from there with the film.
after this gigantic success pixar went about to create 'a bug's life' in 1998, and soon after the creation of Toy story 2 came around in 1999 as a sequel to toy story 1,
after these knock out hits of films pixar managed to rack in a income of around 2.5 billion dollars of revenue even with this succession Pixar developed a business relationship Disney which involved them in control of markting and distribution  for the films however Disney had the rights of all stories and sequels and Pixar were a bit on edge about that role of ownership.

then after the forming of the two as a working group they made more films like Monsters inc (2001), Finding Nemo (2003), The Incredibles (2004) and Cars (2006).
after these years of partnership Walt Disney saw the value of the company and out right brought the company in 2006,
However Pixar remained as a separate company and kept it's name and stayed in the same studio in California.
After this new change and development the pixar company carried on created animation films like Ratatouille in 2007 which was they first film under their new parent company.

after the starting of the new format and changes the company created a line up of yearly knock out films like Wall-E in 2008, UP (2009) and the finale to the Toy story trilogy: Toy Story 3.
then in 2010 Pixar revisited the loved Cars franchise and created a sequel to the film and made Cars 2

the ownership of Pixar has gone through numerous sets of companies; starting with the owner being Lucas films in 1979 when Pixar used to be a graphics group with in Lucas films then it was sold to steve jobs (apple) in 1986 then whilst in ownership of apple they did projects and ended up with their own studio in California, then in 1995 Pixar did films for Disney however not to confuse it with ownership of Pixar.
the two companies' carried as partners until 2007 when apple sold Pixar to Disney and have had ownership of the company ever since.
